Respect the Rights of Our Friends and Helpers, the Animals
Some men kill for no good reason, unlike animals that kill only so they can eat.
In early times, men and animals lived in harmony. When man began to travel to other places, their savage ways became even more pronounced. The lion and the lamb are friends no more but sworn enemies.
Any harm by anyone done to another is a transgression against God’s divine law, whatever the circumstances bearing on the matter. All the religions teach the same, and this injunction includes any possible harm done to animals, as well. Hindus especially are taught to reverence all life, all forms being part and parcel of the One God of all.
Simply by observing animals, we come to realize their affinity with us, humans. Animals feel pain and joy, they can be happy, but they also cry when they hurt, they also love and care for their family and loves them just like we do ours. Because we are created by the same God, our Father, it is only right that we should love and respect animals, even though they are not human. Yet, man does the exact opposite. In scientific researches, innocent animals are subjected to all forms of torture usually resulting to their death for the benefit of man.
Animal rights advocates work toward the legislation and enforcement of laws that guarantee animal rights and protect them against all forms of abuse. Through the work that they do, much has been achieved in many ways – regarding the abuse of animals, illegal hunting of endangered species, preservation and rescue of animals.
Once found in large numbers, today, because of indiscriminate killings, there are much fewer lions, elephants, tigers and rhinos. Man’s continued abuse has decimated our wild animal population, this to our great loss. In this world, God has created us superior to our fellow-brother-creatures but at the same time, He has tasked us to care for them and protect them. But instead, we disobey and abuse animals and kill them for no reason.
There are many instances. Since early times, animals and men have been helping one another. Most of us are not aware that ants help us a lot in different ways. Bats, bees and other insects pollinate plants and scatter them all over many places, the plants in turn provide us the food we eat. Bees also produce honey. Cattle provide us with milk and cheese products. Birds also do us a great service by helping to pollinate plants and disperse their seeds, decimate insect pest population and recycle nutrients. Many pet dogs and cats have proven to be much loved friends. Many species of dogs aid in police work, guide dogs assist the blind, the sick and elderly.
In appreciation, many are now actively involved in various animal care and animal rights programs.
But much more are needed.
